Depression
Depression has been rearing its ugly head again. I always get depressed this time of year. It is just worse this time. My anxiety disorder is trying real hard to mess with me. I will keep fighting!!!
It seems like the more I stimulate my mind the deeper it wants to go. I have always been a thinker and a contemplater. I love to write poetry and generally try to express my self. The last few years though I have operated on a little more surface level. Not really like me but I really thought that I had just changed. I guess I was just running and hiding from my feelings. Again, not really like me to do that. Maybe I just needed a little break from the stress I put myself under. I don’t know.
I don’t even know what meaning this post has. I just needed to write something because it has been so long since I posted. Maybe I will actually have something to say tomorrow.

White Mountain Stinks!!!!
What a weekend. We had the most amazing time together. It was me, Brigitte, and my friend Alex. We took off Friday at about 4:00pm and made it to the trailhead at about 11:00pm. We had a great trip along the way. We had a nice dinner, a great game of freeze out( it was 31degrees), and I might have broken a flag pole in Lone Pine. Well I know I did. The wind was just whipping and when I shut my door to the car I guess the flag got caught inside, well when we pulled away you can imagine what happened. Any how, it was a nice drive over. I almost forgot, Alex and I jammed to a bunch of songs. Him with his Conga drum and me with my Pringles tube. It was all good!!
The evening continues….we set up camp in the back of the Yukon. Remember it is 31 and don’t forget wind chill. We are at around 12,000 feet so it is windy!!!!! We barely sleep! Not really from the cold so much but from excitement and discomfort. Alex is trying to sleep across the front bench of the car. He is 6′2. Oh well! At 4:00am we trade places. We had planned to start hiking at 5:00 but decided to try and get more sleep. We ended up hitting the trail a little after 8:00am. Brigitte and I never hike this late!
The hike itself just stinks! I have altitude sickness so my head is killing me. Alex didn’t train so his legs are killing him. We are a couple of whiners. Poor Brigitte!
I guess I should throw out some facts so that the trip makes sense. White Mountain peak is the third highest peak in California. The summit is at 14,246ft. the trail is just over 14 miles round trip. The trail head starts at about 12,000ft. At these elevations, your body only works at about 60% of normal. This is concerning your ability to use oxygen efficiently, your lung capacity, etc. People can also experience altitude sickness at these altitudes. Which I do! At lower elevations I usually do 3 miles up and down in 37minutes. Up here 2miles in an hour. As I get higher I get even slower.
Back to the trail….it is a slog in my opinion. My mind seperates the hike into three different segments so in my opinion there are only three different views. It is very hard to walk fourteen miles with a splitting (and I mean SPLITTING) headache and only have three scenes to look at. This was a total mental hike. Can I hang in there mentally? We all did! And thank you Jesus it is over! I am glad I did it. I now have #1 and #3 under my belt. I will think about doing #2 next season. (Mt. Williamson)
We are supposed to go get in the hot springs near Mammoth and camp again in the desert. I throw out the let’s get a hotel idea and everyone is on board. We ended up at the Ramada in Bishop and it was wonderful. A hot shower and comfy bed. Woo Hoo! I was feeling very wimpy! I started my period the morning of the hike and I had to do my first wilderness poop. That was a nightmare. I have peed many times no big deal. I have never had to do the big poop. Anyway I ask Brigitte if she has any baby wipes and she tosses them over my head, they hit a rock and land in my poop. Everything gets handled but I just feel like a real shower and a comfy bed. You ladies know what I mean!
The next day, we have the best breakfast I have ever had at Jack’s in Bishop. Yummy! We also stopped at Eric Shaats Bakery. It is the mother ship of bakeries. Everyone should visit at least once. Oh yeah. Whilel at Jack’s we introduced ourselves to our waitress and she is a hiker too. We got her name and number and may be joining her on some hikes next season. Woo Hoo! I love meeting new people.
Mammoth here we come. We drove all over the town and just checked things out. We stopped at Wave Rave. The biggest snowboarding outfitter in the U.S.? the world? I can’t remember. I got my kids some things here and then we were off. We drove up to the resort and checked things out up there. Alex works winters at a resort on our side of the Sierras so he was interested in checking out their resort. As was I!!!
From here we hit June Lake Loop. Just drove through we were hungry and wanted a burger from Mono Cone in Lee Vining. The best burger I have ever eaten!!!! Delicious!!
Following lunch we took Tioga road through Yosemite to head home. We stopped to watch some rock climbers. That is always fun!!! We pretty much drove straight home from here with just bathroom stops on the way.
It was a great trip with great friends and wonderful conversations. It was a very sucky hike. I loved it anyway and I am very glad I did it.
Hike on!

POST SCRIPT
I am unbelievably technologically illiterate. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to resize my photos so that they are not blurry on the blog. They look okay everywhere else and then I get them here and yuck! If anyone can help me, in very simple 4th grade computer lingo, I would very much appreciate it. I have so many photos I would love to post but it is so frustrating that I just give up. Oh boy, something else to work on, not quitting. Anyway, I would appreciate any help that is out there. Maybe I will buy a book. I’m sure they have a “posting photos on your blog” for dummies book. At least I hope they do. Thanks again and HIKE ON!

Training
Oh how I love training.
what I find absolutely amazing about my body is that the more I work out the bigger I get. My body has this crazy ability to build muscle. And build it, it does. My behind is so big these days and I have amazon thighs. Solid muscle mind you but big all the same. when I was sick I lost almost 20 pounds and most of my muscle tone. I was kind of hangy but I could fit into junior size 11 pants. Boy was I excited. Now that I am working out my 14’s are pretty well filled out.The body does look better but it is definetely larger. I am back in my 14’s and I guess it isa “small”(ha ha) price to pay to be strong and healthy. I suppose that a strong fit 14 is actually better that a weak, puny size 11. Oh well. I pick healthy.
Thank you Father for this healthy size 14 body. A body that is able to take nourishment and give nourishment. I love you and I thank you.

These are few pics of the hill I walk with my hiking partner about 4 times a week. Our basic walk is three miles. 1.5 up and 1.5 down. Sometimes we will jump the fence and take the cow trail up to the caves. I have no idea how much mileage this adds but I know it increases the workout like 100%. Well it feels that way anyway. On weekends that we are home we will do a 12 mile loop around the hill. There are two significant ups and two significant downs. All great workouts for hiking.
Oh and did I mention the views. We can see the foothills the entire time we are walking but when we reach the top it opens up into the Sierra Nevada and as usual, God takes my breath away. I hope everyone has something in their life that fills them as full of God’s love as I feel when I am climbing, or just looking at the mountains.
Hike on!

God’s Grace
Why is a gift so hard to accept. I so easily get caught up in trying to earn His love. I know I cannot earn it and I will never deserve it, yet somehow I feel that His grace is something I must OBTAIN. I can’t seem to accept the gift that is being handed to me. Oh how I long to just accept it. To revel in the grace that He so freely gives. If I just would.
How can I give His love to others if I spend all my time just trying to make sure that He loves and wants me? I should be out giving His love to others. I guess that is just one of the traps that satan uses to keep us from furthering the Kingdom of God. It makes me feel so used. I feel silly for being so naive sometimes.
My goal for this week is to work on accepting this gift freely. Just trusting in Him and being thankful. In doing this, I hope to be able to give more love to others and stop concentrating on obtaining things that I already have.

Back from the beach
We made it home from camping at the beach. We got home on Monday but life has been so busy. We had an awesome trip!
We took the kids to swim in the ocean, Dan played in a softball tournament, and I got to go to a second hand store. By the way, I found some great stuff that I needed. I got a pair of water shoes that retail for $100.00 for $18.00, I got a hiking hat for $6.00 and an overnight bag for tolietries when I travel. All purchases I was planning on making in the next few months. I was so excited to get them at a great price and to reuse something instead of buying it new.
The temps here at home were 103-105 the temps at the coast were a high of 75. So very nice! Of course being home is always nice.
Miss Princess went with us too. She is my 16 year old dog. It was too hot to leave her home alone in her old age. She had a great time and got spoiled all weekend. I even carried her around in a bag so that she didn’t have to walk too much. She has arthritis in her hips.
It was a wonderful weekend and I can’t wait to take our next adventure. My next one is next weekend when I go on my birthday climb of White Mountain Peak, 14,246 ft.
Hike on! Dirt Diver out!

DEMOLITION CREW!!!!
Demolition is so thearapeutic. My friend and I tore apart the old counter down at the pizza place. Before my friend bought the store, we both worked there for this real jerk of a guy. We both cared about him but he made us crazy. You know the kind. Like family. They make you crazy but deep inside you love them. That is how we feel about him. Anyway, he used to let things get kind of run down. My friend bought the place three years ago and every time we replace something old with something new we call it “getting rid of the Dave stink”. So it felt really good getting rid of the Dave stink on that counter. It felt very very liberating.
On a different note- the training continues for White mountain peak. Me and the girls hit Rocky Hill tonight. I love the girls and I love spending time with them but I have to admit we don’t get near the workout when we walk together. I did the walk in 37 minutes last week by myself and tonight it took about 56 minutes. Oh well we sure loved the heck out of each other. I love my girlfriends! Thank you Jesus for each and everyone of them!!!!!

Columbia or Bust
Well we are home. We had a fantastick trip!!! We went to the living ghost town, rode on a stagecoach, panned for gold, bought lots of souveniors, and had a picnic in the park. Then, we went to Sonora found a hotel room for the night. We ended up getting a suite and our kids thought we had died and gone to heaven. They were so stoked!!! We went for a walk around town and then to the market to buy dinner. This is the first trip( besides camping) that I have cooked dinner for us. No eating out for us! We spent $30.00 on dinner, snacks, dessert, and drinks. Alot less than we would have spent going to dinner and we got to bring the left overs home with us. I was very happy! We spent today checking out neighboring towns and just slowly making our way home. We had an incredible trip and are anxiously awaiting our next one. Which happens to be camping this next weekend. I love my life!

All in all a pretty typical day
Things were just pretty typical today. Work was hectic, the kids are bickering like crazy, went to dinner with the in-laws, you know, typical stuff.
Have a great Thursday!
